Reading Is Such A Wonderful Thing
66
I've traveled the world twice over,
Met the famous; saints and sinners,
Poets and artists, kings and queens,
Old stars and hopeful beginners,
I've been where no-one's been before,
Learned secrets from writers and cooks. All with one library ticket
To the wonderful world of books.
Do You love reading ?
See results without votingThere are plenty of shortcuts to pleasure these days. Mostly people will say going to broadways, watching movies, playing and so on. But do they really lead to happiness?
In my opinion No.
As a matter of fact when there was no television or computer, reading was the primary leisure activity next to music or dance. The only tragedy is that, with time, people have lost their skill and passion to read.

Why Reading Matters ?
Lets start with why reading matters so much in our lives. And even if people say that they dont read, eventually they get to read something or the other at various points of time in a day.
Everyone's day starts with newspaper. Neither the advent of the television nor that of the Internet has been able to affect the importance of the newspaper. The reason being the ease of reading it at our own leisure and comfort. Even if on a single day we dont get to read newspaper how restless we feel.
Then there are fact books. Whenever at work, there are number of times that we get stuck into official or business problems. At those times we refer books, documents, electronic industry publications, files and read. There are times when internet also doesn't help. (as these days is the case, whenever we search something, we get number of results, out of which information is usually nil.) Going through archives will tell you the truth straight out and help you.
After leaving work, on our way we read to kill time. We go through magazines, they may be gossip ones or on fashion and at times political or business magazines too. Usually whenever we travel its in our instinct that we buy magazines.
Storybooks tell stories, obviously, and are the books that bring out the imagination best. When we get back home, we read out story books to our children. Why? To inculcate reading habit in them. To develop passion of readin in them. And researchers have observed that children and teenagers who love reading have comparatively higher IQs. And they do better in school and college.
Hence, reading is an integrate part of our lives. We read for fun, for entertaining ourselves, fo learning, for passing our time.
"The life of a good book, is far longer than the life of a man. Its author dies, and his generation dies, and his successors are born and die; the world he knew disappears, and new orders which he could not forsee are established on its ruins; law, religion, science, commerce, society, all are transformed into shapes which would astound him; but his book continues to live. Long after he and his epoch are dead, the book speks with his voice." - Gilbert Highet
Still why we hate Reading and why we say that reading is boring ?
Reading As A Source Of Entertainment
No lets try to find why we need to entertain ourselves. There is a different meaning and ways of entertainment for each one of us. Women go shopping. Children play. Men need music. Oldies read. Why all this ? To entertain ourselves. But why cant we live without any source of entertainment. Because our lives will become colorless, boring and dull.
To break from the monotony of our lives, we need entertainment.
To relax and have fun.
To rejuvenate ourselves.
To destress.
All this we can get from reading. Make a large mug of coffee.Take any book of you interest. Sit in your lounge or in the garden and read. You will get into another world. Not only you will relax and enjoy but also you will learn.
Reading is an activity that involves greater levels of concentration and adds to the conversational skills of the reader. It helps in mental development and is known to stimulate the muscles of the eyes.
Reading is an indulgence that enhances the knowledge acquired, consistently.

Very nice hub. Reading is a habit and should be inculcated right from the childhood. It never lets you feel alone.
Reading is a passion. And people who love reading are people with great knowledge and wisdom. We should inculcate reading habit in our children. Books are one's true friends and guides. You have made such a nice hub. And yes a unique one for Favourite Entertainer. My thumbs up for you.
Great hub. I love books too, I've written hubs about them.
I love reading! I remember when I was a little girl and felt bored, I turned to books for entertainment. It does open our imaginations and led me to new exciting worlds! :-)
Couldn't agree more. I've always loved reading, it has enriched my life beyond measure.
I just remembered that as a child, I had dreams of living in a bookstore. Today, I saw a newscast of the 500+ book shops in Paris and an interview of a rabid book collector there.
Reading entertained me as a child and reading skills are crucial to our youth.
Good job! Everybody should read more. It's particularly important to start kids reading early. Thanks for a great hub.
